2005 — Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica
Minolta) today introduced the bizhub PRO™ 920, a 92 page-per-minute
(ppm) printer/copier/scanner. This Segment 6 workhorse is ideally
suited for users in production environments ranging from CRDs to
print-for-pay to commercial printing to datacenters, as well as
high-volume departmental settings.
The bizhub PRO 920 has been designed to
combine professional production features with advanced device and
workflow management functions, including speed, reliability and
durability, automatic finishing, flexible scanning, and superior output
quality. Functional highlights include: high-speed 92 ppm
input/output, User Box functionality, 6,650-sheet maximum paper
capacity, the ability to handle 110 lb. index stock from all paper
trays, Konica Minolta Simitri® Polymerized Toner, User Authentication,
and network management tools through the PageScope software suite.

Engine and Paper Handling
Highlights
Featuring a monthly duty cycle of 750,000 impressions and a
maximum paper capacity of 6,650 sheets (including a maximum ledger paper
capacity of 6,150 sheets), the bizhub PRO 920’s engine stands up to the
rigors of the production printing world. The ability to handle from
5.5″ x 8.5″ to 11″ x 17″ paper (12″ x 18″ through the 150-sheet bypass
and optional large capacity unit) at weights up to 110 lb. index from
all paper sources provides users with a device that meets their broad
spectrum of printing/copying/scanning needs.
Copying/Printing Capabilities
and Image Quality
The bizhub PRO 920 lets users produce more documents faster with its
high-speed 92 ppm input/output. Tandem copy and print capabilities will
be available in early 2006, enabling the connection of two bizhub PRO
920s for up to 184 ppm output.
Featuring 600 x 600 dpi print and copy
resolution (1200 x 600 dpi emulation) with 256 grayscale levels, the
bizhub PRO 920 produces clear text, sharp edges and smooth halftones.
The bizhub PRO 920 uses Konica Minolta Simitri® Polymerized Toner with
smaller, smoother, more uniform toner particles for more even
distribution, significantly better fine line definition, and better
solid fills.
The bizhub PRO 920’s optional IC-203
embedded print controller features PCL5e/6, PostScript Level 3 (optional
Adobe PS3), direct PDF and TIFF printing, Scan-to-SMB (desktop),
Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-Hard Drive and Scan-to-FTP functionality — all at
up to 600 dpi resolution.
Advanced Security and Data
Handling Features
Due to the importance of document security and document
management in today’s business environment, the bizhub PRO 920 is
ISO-15408 certified and supports Hard Disk Drive Overwrite and Job
Erase, which automatically overwrites the hard disk drive after each
job. The bizhub PRO 920 also offers User Authentication with NDS
capability to protect a user job by prohibiting its modification or
deletion. With User Authentication, it is also possible to enable or
disable each user’s access to the device based on function — copy,
print, scan, fax and hold job control.
The bizhub PRO 920’s User Box feature
supports each of the device’s functions — copy, print and scan. With a
total of 1,000 user boxes and the ability to store up to 3,000
documents, users can manage individual User Boxes, create public and
private User Boxes, assign passwords, and restrict the number of files
stored.
Finishing Options for Maximum
Productivity
A wide range of finishing options designed to take care of a wide range
of job types are offered for the bizhub PRO 920. The FS-604 Folding
Finisher provides 50-sheet stapling; tri-folding capabilities; and
saddle-stitch booklet making for creating booklets on letter, legal or
ledger up to 20 sheets (80 pages total). In addition, the FS-509
Finisher delivers sorting and 100-sheet stapling. The device also
offers two- and three-hole punching; z-folding; and post-sheet
insertion, with the ability to add both pre-printed covers and inserts
to documents.
PageScope Applications and
Utilities
PageScope, Konica Minolta’s powerful family of integrated
software applications and utilities for document and device management,
as well as for network management, is available to bizhub PRO 920
users. The bizhub PRO 920 comes standard with PageScope Net Care and
PageScope Web Connection, as well as two PageScope utilities — PageScope
Direct Print and PageScope Job Spooler. Also available as an option for
the bizhub PRO 920 will be the soon-to-be-released PageScope Workware, a
simple yet powerful document management program.
PageScope Net Care provides network
administrators with detailed information about the operating conditions
of all output devices containing a Management Information Base (MIB) on
a network from any Web browser. PageScope Web Connection allows users
to instantly check device conditions on all network-connected Konica
Minolta printers/copiers from their desktop.
In addition, the bizhub PRO 920’s
PageScope utilities are tightly integrated with the device’s engine and
are designed for improved document management. PageScope Direct Print
enables users to print PDF and TIFF files by simply dragging the file to
the PageScope Direct Print icon (pre-configured for the bizhub PRO 920)
on the user desktop. PageScope Job Spooler provides users with the
ability to view active job status in the print queue, change the order
of jobs, and view jobs stored in the hard drive.
Software Options
Konica Minolta offers a complete line-up of software for the bizhub PRO
920, including: document management and OCR, variable data printing,
file format conversion, imposition, routing and bill-back options.
